Splish Splash! Carpets in Bathrooms?

There is a topic that bothers me slightly and that is the issue of carpets in bathrooms.

Please don't gasp! The whole carpet in a bathroom issue has been a definite no no since I can remember. There are the obvious hygiene reasons but then I wonder, are we really that unhygienic? Just how splashy are we as a nation?! Reading through a home interior magazine, I came across beautiful images of traditional bathrooms which are indeed, carpeted. I must admit I am really drawn to them! They look wonderfully warm, inviting and cosy, ready for a long hot soak . Surely, with a regular vacuum and a good quality carpet, this could be a possibility and no issue with cleanliness. I understand for families with very young children splashing around in the tub, it probably would not work, but for a grown up household - why not? I am not sure I will ever be brave enough to try, but it keeps my mind busy mulling this one over!
