One of the things we love most about reclaimed wood is that it continues to live and breathe long after it arrives in your home. Every plank carries its own history, character and natural imperfections, making each piece entirely unique.

 

Our reclaimed furniture is handcrafted using genuine reclaimed timber, meaning knots, uneven edges, saw marks, historic splits, grain variation, old nail holes and surface movement are all part of the beauty and authenticity of the piece. Unlike engineered materials, reclaimed wood will naturally respond to changes in temperature, sunlight and humidity within your home.

 

Living With Reclaimed Wood

As your furniture settles into its environment, natural movement may occur. This can include:

• Small cracks opening or closing

• Slight movement between planks

• Changes in texture and grain appearance

• Minor unevenness and surface variation

These are not faults, but natural characteristics of authentic reclaimed timber and part of the charm of rustic handmade furniture. Because reclaimed wood is intentionally rustic and organic in appearance, surfaces and edges may not be perfectly flat or uniform.

 

Caring For Your Furniture

To keep reclaimed wood nourished, protected and looking its best, regular treatment with a high-quality clear natural beeswax polish is essential.

We strongly recommend applying a clear beeswax polish such as Parr’s Clear Beeswax Polish approximately every 4 weeks, and more frequently during periods of hot, dry weather or in homes with underfloor heating, log burners or strong sunlight exposure.

Regular waxing helps to:

• Prevent the timber from drying out

• Reduce excessive movement and shrinkage

• Nourish and protect the surface

• Maintain the richness and depth of the finish

 

Failure to regularly maintain reclaimed wood furniture with a suitable clear beeswax polish may result in excessive drying, splitting, cracking, movement or warping of the timber over time.

As reclaimed wood is a natural material, customers are responsible for maintaining their furniture correctly in accordance with this care guide.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept responsibility for issues arising from insufficient aftercare, unsuitable environmental conditions or failure to regularly nourish and protect the timber.

 

Important Care Advice

• Always use placemats and coasters

• Wipe spillages immediately

• Use furniture pads if you have underfloor heating

• Never place hot pans or dishes directly onto the surface

• Avoid silicone-based sprays and harsh chemical cleaners

• Do not position furniture directly beside radiators, log burners or intense heat sources

• Avoid prolonged direct sunlight where possible

• Do not place plant pots directly onto wooden surfaces

 

Cleaning

Clean using a soft damp cloth followed by a dry cloth. For more stubborn marks, use a mild diluted soap solution only.

Avoid bleach, abrasive products, antibacterial sprays and alcohol-based cleaners, as these can break down the protective wax finish and dry out the timber.

Every Frank & Pig reclaimed furniture piece is individually handmade and designed to age beautifully over time. With the correct care and regular nourishment, reclaimed wood will continue to develop character and patina for many years to come.

 

Cancellations & Returns

As all of our furniture is handmade to order, any amendments or cancellations for bespoke or custom-sized items must be requested within 7 days of placing your order. After this period, production may already have begun, and changes may no longer be possible.

We are unable to accept returns on bespoke, personalised, made-to-order or custom items unless they are faulty.

​

Please note that reclaimed wood is a natural material and will continue to respond to its environment over time. Natural movement, cracks, splits and variations are part of the character of reclaimed timber and are not considered faults.

We kindly ask customers to follow our care guidance, including regular treatment with a clear natural beeswax polish, to help protect and nourish the wood. Unfortunately, we cannot accept responsibility for issues caused by insufficient maintenance, exposure to excessive heat or sunlight, or failure to care for the furniture appropriately.
